OPEN POSITIONS


Finance Team

As a part of the finance team, you'll manage our day to day spending, accounting and budgeting. Your job is to keep us afloat and ensure we're consistently compliant with National Guidelines. Training will be provided by the MIST National Finance Committee.
  • In charge of creating a budget and a fundraising goal.
  • Must coordinate with the board in raising funds for the event.
  • Responsible for creating the MIST yearly budget.
  • Oversee all transactions and fundraisers.
  • Responsible for giving out tax-exemption forms upon request from donors.
  • Work with the marketing team in creating sponsorship packages.
  • Keep all National Finance documents up to date at all times.
  • Must be able to perform audits, must be able to communicate effectively.
  • Keep track of bank accounting number, routing number, PIN, authorized account holders, addresses, etc.

​Registration Team

​As part of the registration team, you will be responsible for helping students, coaches, guests, and judges register under MYMIST. 
  • Remain in contact with all high school MSAs along with the marketing team.
  • Follow up with all those who attended previously.
  • Familiarize self with the MYMIST registration process.
  • In charge of on site registration MIST weekend.
  • Assist all schools with registration and troubleshooting
  • Keep in contact with the National Registration Director.
  • Create badges for everyone and keep a log of MIST IDs.
  • Be prompt with replies relative to registration. ​

Programs Team

As part of the programs team, you will be responsible for creating the tournament schedule, organizing speakers and workshops, and coordinating the tournament logistics.  
  • Plan and execute the program of MIST Florida. 
  • In charge of all venue bookings and room scheduling.  
  • Contact speakers and volunteers for lectures/workshops and work with Competitions Chairs to organize timings and create schedule.
  • Organize all activities and programming events such as talent show and basketball. 
  • Arrange all necessary hospitality required for any speaker.
  • In charge of arranging a hotel with a group discount for MIST competitors, volunteers/judges, coaches, and guests.
  • Keeping the directors updated with all progress or setbacks.  
  • Be prompt with replies relative to programs. 

Marketing Team

As a part of the marketing team, you will be the voice of MIST Florida. From email campaigns and fielding general information questions to website design and social media posts, you'll be the primary social and PR contact for MIST Florida. You'll manage outreach to new schools.

You will maintain our website, keeping it updated with all the latest information while ensuring maximum aesthetic appeal.

You will also be our in house graphic designer - making our flyers, infographics, social banners, etc.

You will also work with the National Marketing Director to develop and maintain the MIST brand and marketing strategy. You'll work to grow our region and maintain our reputation and brand ID.

  • Create a marketing plan for the year to help increase the size of our competitors.
  • Brainstorm new and innovative ways to get the word out, ex. coordinate social media campaigns/contests.
  • Look into shirts and other promotional items to help market.
  • Act as the primary contact between schools, parents, and competitors and the MIST board.
  • Manage users on MIST email account, monitor activity, filter spam messages and comments to maintain a professional image.​​
  • Responsible for creating the award ceremony slideshow tournament weekend.

Outreach Team

As the Outreach Chair, you will be responsible for creating a geographic map of Florida schools and teams, and selecting a region in Florida that has no current MIST presence. You will head a campaign to get students from that region to attend tournament weekend.
  • Coordinating school visits, information sessions, and any other form of outreach and support that MIST teams may need. ​
  • Coordinating with a Marketing team to assist you with any online marketing materials.
  • Responsible for building external relationships with other organizations.
  • Finding events in the community to table at in order to market MIST.

​Volunteers Team 

As part of the volunteers team, you will be responsible for recruiting and training all volunteers before MIST weekend. During the weekend, you will manage volunteer personnel to ensure that each volunteer is doing their job. 
  • Create volunteer sign-up form.
  • Recruit reliable volunteers for MIST and all pre-MIST activities.
  • Create email group/ whatsapp group for volunteer committee.
  • Assign volunteers in their respective departments.
  • Assign security heads.
  • Oversee security volunteer assignments.
  • Hold volunteer meetings with committee and volunteer orientation for volunteers the day of MIST.
  • Create volunteer hours sheet for community service hours.
  • Create volunteer sign in and out sheet.
  • Provide volunteers to any department if needed.
  • Ensure all volunteers understand the importance of respecting all students. ​

Competitions Team

Scorekeeper

The Competitions Team is composed of the Competitions Chair and the Category Heads. As part of this branch, you'll know the MIST Rulebook front to back and you'll be able to rattle off rules like they were your name! You will also interact directly with judges and handle disputes during MIST weekend.
  • As Competitions Chair, you'll be the final word on all things competitions.
  • You'll handle competition rules disputes the weekend of MIST.
  • In charge of coordinating and making sure competitors adhere to early submission deadlines.
  • Competition Chairs will also act as the representative for MIST Florida in the National Competitions Committee and National Competition Rules Committee.
  • Ensure all necessary competition material (ballots, guidelines, rules, etc) is printed two weeks prior to the tournament.
  • Answer all competition related questions and concerns in a timely manner within 24 hours.
  • Ensure Category Heads are well aware of their competitions and chain of command as well as ensuring their understanding of the rulebook and guidelines.
  • As a Category Head, you'll be the final word on all things judges.
  • You know how to judge (but not in the messed up way), you will have a deep understanding of the competition rules and will work with the competitions chair to find competent and qualified judges for various competitions for your specific category. 
  • Create judge sign-up form to recruit reliable judges for MIST competitions.
  • Create spreadsheet of all judges organized by competition.
  • Attend meetings with category heads and judges to facilitate judges’ training.
  • Assign judges to their respective competition rooms.
  • Maintain proper communication between category heads and judges close to MIST weekend (email, whatsapp groups, text)
  • Oversee all judges’ activity and ensure that it is of role model behavior.
  • Ensure all judges understand the importance of respecting all students.
As the Scorekeeper, you will be the final say on all things score related. You check, double check, and triple check all competitions ballots and ensure there are no errors in identifying the winners of competitions. You will enter score data and along with the Competitions Chair identify winners and rank competitors and overall teams. You have an eye for detail and you are meticulous. 
  • Becoming familiar with the MIST Nationals scorekeeping system and rules.
  • Recruiting a team of 1-2 volunteers to assist in compiling scores during the tournament.
  • Calculating and inputting individual and team scores into the scorekeeping system and compiling winners list for the Awards Ceremony.
  • Double checking scores for accuracy.
  • Ensuring the competition’s chair, heads, and subhead are well aware of the ballot handling and scoring guidelines.
  • Creating packets with all scored ballots per school.
  • Contact judges in case of competition tie breakers.
  • Consult with directors in case of overall ties.

DISCLAIMER:

Eligibility:  Members of the MIST Board must be  capable of sincerely performing and executing the mission of MIST as stipulated in their Commitment Pledge.

Removal: Any MIST board member in violation of the organization’s purpose or constitution may be removed from office by the following process:
a) A written request by at least three (3) members of the organization to the MIST Board Director stating the reasons for removal.

b) Notification by the Director and/or Associate Director to the officer of the request, asking the officer to be present at the next meeting prepared to speak in their own defense.

c) Immediate removal from office by the Director due to egregious misconduct, unprofessionalism or disrespect.  

d) After due deliberation, the MIST Board members, minus the officer in question, will present its recommendation to a Board meeting called for this purpose. The quorum for this meeting shall be at least two-fifths (2/5) of the Board members of which a 2/3 majority vote is necessary to remove the officer.
