Spirit Points are MIST's personal merit system! Spirit Points are awarded (and deducted) based on a team's behavior and demeanor throughout the competition weekend. Teams are not made aware of exactly who will be watching out for their behavior and awarding/deducting Spirit Points, but rest assured there is a method to the madness! There are also contests before and during MIST weekend in which teams can earn Spirit Points. At the end of the weekend, the Spirit Cup is awarded to the team who earns the most Spirit Points.

Spirit Points can be earned in many, many ways! Here are some of the major ways you can earn spirit points:

• Helping others (includes members of your own team, members of another team, board members, volunteers, speakers, etc.)
• Actively participating (both during workshops and on social media)
• Arriving on time (to orientation, competitions, and workshops)
• Winning contests! (this includes social media contests and the Team Chant Competition)

Spirit Points are calculated based on a scale devised by MIST Florida in which positive and negative behaviors are "worth" a certain number of Spirit Points awarded or deducted, respectively, from a team's total. Each time that a behavior is noticed by our team, the respective point value is added/subtracted from the team's total.
