Procedures:
Layout:
The competition will be split up into three portions. The first portion will be the MIST Math Olympics Pretest, the second will be the Ciphering Round I, and the last portion will be the Ciphering Round II. If two or more competitors tie by the end of Ciphering Round II, then the competitors will go into the Ciphering Bonus Round. The Pretest will consist of 30 different questions ranging from Geometry and Algebra and will be one hour long. The two Ciphering Rounds will both contain 10 questions. The ciphering round questions are not only designed to be difficult but also put the competitor under time pressure by giving him/her only a couple minutes to answer each question.
- Tests must be taken individually.
- The competition will be split up into three (3) portions. The first portion will be the MIST Math Olympics Pretest, the second will be the Ciphering Round I, and the last portion will be the Ciphering Round II. If two (2) or more competitors tie by the end of Ciphering Round II, the competitors will go into the Ciphering Bonus Round.
- The Pretest will consist of 30 different questions ranging from Geometry and Algebra and will be one (1) hour long. Competitors will be able to work on problems in any order.
- The two (2) Ciphering Rounds will both contain ten (10) questions each. The total time allotted will be ten (10) minutes. Competitors must complete each question before proceeding to the next.
- The Pretest will consist of 30 different questions ranging from Geometry and Algebra and will be one (1) hour long. Competitors will be able to work on problems in any order.
- No knowledge of Trigonometry or Calculus is required. An understanding of only Geometry, Algebra I & II and Statistics & Probability are sufficient for a student.
- Basic scientific calculators are allowed. Calculators with graphing ability, such as the TI-83 or higher, are NOT allowed.
- This competition will be conducted online.
- This competition will require live cameras and microphones that are on throughout the entirety of the exam. Further details will be released closer to the tournament date.
- Each student will be given an online test for each round. This competition will test students’ ability to think critically and apply arithmetic to solve word problems.
- There is no ballot for this competition. Scores will be based solely on test performance
